Blue Ribbon Sports

Nike founders formally joined forces in 1964 as a distribution company called Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS).

The company was founded by Bill Bowerman, a track-and-field coach at the University of Oregon, and his former student Phil Knight, through an investment of $500 each and a legendary handshake. They distributed Japanese Onitsuka Tiger (now known as Asics) footwear until they decided to launch their own brand. On May 30, 1971, Blue Ribbon Sports officially became Nike Inc.

Nike has revolutionized the sports and fitness industry, and their mission today aims “to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world”.
