This year again, our company was a proud sponsor of the Belgrade Marathon. For the first time in its history, the event took place over two days.
On Saturday, April 18, the 10K and half marathon races were held, while marathon runners took to the streets on Sunday, April 19.
We are proud that, among 14,500 participants, more than 20 of our colleagues also took part in the race.
The event was accompanied by a rich program at the Marathon Expo at the Belgrade Fair, where runners had the opportunity to visit our Nike pop-up store, take part in various activations, or join an informal warm-up run with our running club, Best Behaviour.
Our Senior Marketing Manager, Nebojša Duh, shared his impressions of the overall event and accompanying program.
“I am extremely pleased with the running euphoria that could be felt on the streets of Belgrade these past days. We were there to support runners every step of the way – from the Belgrade Marathon Expo, through the shake-out run, all the way to the races themselves – 10K, 21K and 42K,” said Nebojša.
The 39th Powerade Belgrade Marathon concluded with victories by Ethiopia’s Gade Gemshishe Gudeta in the men’s race and Edene Alemu Dadi in the women’s race over the 42.195 km distance. Gudeta also set a new record at Serbia’s largest sporting event.
On the new course, introduced for the first time this year, the Ethiopian crossed the finish line at Republic Square in 2:09:11. The previous best time in the Serbian capital was set by Kenya’s Japhet Kosgei in 2006, with a time of 2:10:54.
On the first day, new course records in the half marathon were set by Kenya’s Francis Abong Kumva and Valentina Jebet. Kumva finished in 1:00:47, while Jebet clocked 1:10:47. The fastest runners in the 10K race were Russia’s Yuri Kotov (30:52) and Serbia’s Teodora Simović (35:44).
